This October, Calella will open its doors again to receive and celebrate the 8th edition of Canta al Mar. This event is organized by Interkultur and managed entirely since its first edition by Viajes Tauro and with the support of the City Council of Calella.

The Canta al Mar Festival has become a must on the calendar of INTERKULTUR events and year after year one of the events with the highest degree of satisfaction and best valued by the participants. Since 2012 choirs from around the world gather in the city of Calella.

Every year, Calella attracts new choirs with its Catalan charm. Participants enjoy endless beaches, sun, the Mediterranean Sea and especially people … and all this just a few kilometers from the city of Barcelona. This is just one of the reasons to participate and enjoy this unique event.

Sunny weather, long sandy beaches, short walking distances, as well as tourist visits and performances in Barcelona, ​​with concerts and competitions in the world-renowned Cathedral and in the nearby 15th-century church, the Basilica from Santa María del Pi, make this festival a unique experience for all participants.

This year we are pleased to welcome 34 choirs from 18 nations to the 8th edition of Canta al Mar!

Sing and Fun at the Mediterranean Sea

This October, Calella will reopen its doors to receive and celebrate the 7th edition of Canta al Mar. This event is organized by Interkultur and managed entirely from its first edition by Viajes Tauro and with the support of the Municipality of Calella.

The Canta al Mar Festival has become a must in the INTERKULTUR calendar of events and year after year one of the events with the highest degree of satisfaction and best valued by the participants. Since 2012, choirs from all over the world gather in the city of Calella and celebrate this international festival with many songs from all the musical repertoire and also traditional music.

In fact, in Canta al mar the choirs participate in all kinds of musical categories and styles; as for example the sacred music, in the Basilica del Pi and in the Cathedral of Barcelona, the Folklore that allows the spectator to enter the culture of many and diverse places of the world, and the category of Pop and Jazz that is par excellence the category most festive of the event.

Each year, Calella attracts new choirs with its Catalan charm. The participants enjoy endless beaches, sun, the Mediterranean Sea and especially the people … and all this just a few kilometers from the city of Barcelona. These are just some of the reasons to participate and enjoy this unique event.

All the concerts in Calella can be reached on foot, so that participants can quietly walk around the historic center. In this way, the choirs meet each other, sing at the concerts of friendship and meet other nations and their traditions.

Do not hesitate to come and enjoy the concerts and share unforgettable moments full of joy and emotions. One more year, the citizens of Calella and Barcelona are looking forward to the return of the choirs.

From the 13 to the 16 September, Lisbon will host the third ON STAGE event and with it we are honored to inaugurate the fall season of choral singing events.

The new project of INTERKULTUR – ON STAGE unites the passion for travel with the passion for music. ON STAGE is a non-competitive INTERKULTUR event that makes possible the combination of traveling to your favorite cities, performing with foreign choirs, participating in workshops and getting to know the country; its history, culture and local traditions. In summary, it is an ideal event to combine music with travel, learning and new experiences.

ON STAGE includes touristic activities (sight-seeing), short concerts in touristic places (churches, halls), a workshop with a local choir and at least one concert by all the participants.

In addition, we are happy to have one of the most exciting and charismatic directors in Portugal, Mr. Myguel Santos e Castro as a teacher for the workshop that will be held at the ON STAGE in Lisbon.

 

The Event

 

Lisbon is a city built on seven hills that extends along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and is the land of great discoverers such as Vasco de Gama, Magellan and Prince Enrique, El Navegante.

No other European city presents such an intricate mixture of the old and the new, nor so many faces. Therefore, it is ideal to explore calmly, get lost in it and discover a good amount of amazing landscapes and characteristic monuments.

 

 

It is already the third consecutive year in which this fantastic event will take place. In the past September of 2017 the ON STAGE Lisboa event was already held in which 7 choirs from 7 different nationalities participated; Singakademie Frankfurt (Oder) e.V. (Germany), Jalasjärven nuorisokuoro (Finland), Ajayi Crowther University Chorale (Nigeria), Ukmerges Kulturos center moteru vokalinis ansamblis „Cantilena“ (Lithuania), Carlos Gomes Choir, ITL Segakoor (Estonia) and emCANTUS – Associação Coral de Odivelas de Portugal.

The event was a success and received very good reviews from all participants, so we hope it will be repeated in this next edition in September 2018.
